Micro Needling

Micro Needling / Dermarolling / Mesopen / Dermapen

Skin needling or micro needling is a controlled induced injury with a device to create temporary micro channels or openings in the skin to allow a greater penetration of very active ingredients into the skin and most importantly to set in motion the skins natural healing process to repair the injury.

How micro needling affects the epidermis

Once the skin has been pricked, the keratinocyte cells in the epidermis produce Hyaluronic Acid (HA) to hydrate and plump out the epidermis. The keratinocytes also promote Epidermal Growth Factors (EGF) to increase the thickness of the epidermis, to increase cell metabolism and improve the cells ability to communicate and interact with each other for a whole host of different functions. The skin awakens and cell turnover is increased. On average the topical products in the form of serums with active ingredients that are applied during the needling session will penetrate 80% more effectively. This is the best time to add the best ingredients to suit the skins needs, like growth factors, pigment inhibitors for skin lightening, anti-oxidants or any ingredients to support the individuals skin’s needs.

How micro needling affects the dermis

In the dermis the fibroblasts are stimulated to perform their function, a process that naturally slows down after the age of 25 years. The fibrobasts manufacture new collagen and elastin and hyaluronic acid to hydrate and plump out the dermis. Micro needling also promotes the absorption of cell nutrients like vit A and vit C which are necessary for collagen synthesis. Micro needling is an age corrective treatment, because it forces your own skin to regenerate itself and the more the skin experiences this stimulation, the better the results of restructuring the skin for long term benefits. Intervals between treatment vary but 4 to 6 weeks is a good average and maintenance is imperative.

Micro needling benefits at a glance:
